Why we need more inspiration in education
What is inspiration education?
To us, its honesty, integrity, excellence, commitment, and care. But what is it to you?
Education is not just about filling minds with information; it's about igniting the spark of inspiration that fuels lifelong learning and confidence. It is the drive that we find as children, that morphs into ambition and drive as adults.
When students are inspired, they become curious explorers, eager to uncover new knowledge and insights. Inspiration in education is like a guiding light that leads students on a journey of discovery, creativity, and self-improvement
In today's rapidly evolving world, the need for inspiration in education has become more crucial than ever.
Inspiration fosters creativity, excellence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, essential for success in the modern world. It also instills a lifelong love for learning, empowering individuals to continuously seek knowledge and grow personally and professionally. It gives students the ‘how’ and the ‘why’. In other words, inspiration education facilitates the want in students to do better, not just academically, but for themselves. It is so important that students see the value in education not just for their future, but for what it can do for them.
The below are statistics that detail what instigates academic failure in students.
‘Young people expect to fail’ – what a statement.
How is it that our youth feel so disengaged from the promise of their future? How is it that our youth feel that their future does not belong to them?
The data comes from 184,000 students aged 10-19 from primary and secondary schools across who participated in an anonymous study.
58.4% of students sometimes feel useless.
46% have extremely low self-esteem.
31.6% of students don't like themselves, and 26.4% consider themselves less valuable than others.
As educators, we must make and help students see the value in themselves through inspiration education. The mistake we (as educators, teachers, professors alike) make is when we value grades more than personal development. This worrying trend negates the influence of culture, background, race, gender, sexuality and so many other intersecting factors that contribute to what is normalized as ‘student success’. But what is student success? How can it even be defined?
The way we define it, is through how inspired the student is made to feel. Though that may come across as a personal success of the educator, it is a success of the student.
Inspiration is the driving force behind meaningful education. It also instills a lifelong love for learning, empowering individuals to continuously seek knowledge and grow personally and professionally.
Ultimately, inspiration in education plays a crucial role in shaping confident, resilient, and innovative individuals who can contribute positively to society.
Let’s change the narrative, let’s all create inspiration education.
