People forget what you say, but never forget how you made them feel.

Fleur here, and I wanted to share something that’s been on my mind recently:

PEOPLE FORGET WHAT YOU SAY, THEY NEVER FORGET HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

I remember in the early stages of my career (and arguably, I am still very much in it), my dad told me this small, simple line.

My dad is a networker and a successful one at that. Why? Because he makes people feel good about themselves.

My dad is one of the most honest people I have ever known, everything he does is with integrity and faith. So why does he make a point of making people feel good?

🤗 When you're doing a presentation, how does good feedback make you feel?

🤗 When you're going out of your way to help someone, how does their compliment of your good character make you feel?

🤗 When you're assisting on a project, how does the commendation of your ability make you feel?

In teaching, I have found that making my students feel good about themselves makes them not only remember my teaching, but it facilitates a far greater confidence in their abilities than what was there before.

How do I do this?

📌 Through taking interest in their interests, finding similarities and joining in their passions

📌 Commending them on their efforts, large or small - it never goes unnoticed

📌 Believing in them and sharing this faith even when the work gets hard

Why do I do this?

🔑 To allow them to know that if I believe in them, why wouldn't they?

🔑 To encourage them to try

🔑 To build trust and rapport - without it, teaching becomes less effective.

In educating, it is obvious that students might not soak up every single word you teach them, but they will remember how you made them feel.

Take the opportunity this week to make someone feel good. You never know how it might change their day, week or even life.
